The passenger jet, Jeju Air Flight 7c2216, took off from Bangkok Thailand, Suvarnabhumi Airport (Runway 02R) , at 19:11 GMT (28 Dec 2024) and flew without incident to Muan International Airport in Muan South Korea. The jet, a 15-year-old Boeing 737-800, had 181 souls onboard.
The Jeju Air pilot in command ( Captain), with 5 years at the rank, was a pilot with more than 6,800 hours of flight experience. While commanding the Boeing 737-800 jet,
He made two attempts at landing on runway 19 and landed on the second. The runway length had been shortened due to construction from 9200 ft to 8,200 ft. Bird activity on the approach forced the pilot to waive off on the first attempt and initiate a go around. Subsequently, he declared an emergency and broadcast a mayday transmission two minutes before landing
" gear up " on his second attempt. The pilot touched down at the midway point in the runway with only 4100 ft of runway remaining.

According to reports by Korean News 1 agency a passenger reported seeing a bird stuck on the wing before the crash.
The crash occurred in Muan South Korea at 00:03 GMT (29 Dec 2024). Jeju Air is a low cost budget airline headquartered in South Korea.
Miraculously Two survivors, both flight attendants survived, and are in stable condition.The two survivors were buckled into the far rear of the plane at the time of impact. The initial theory to the cause of the crash was a bird strike. However, many experts have questioned that theory citing a bird strike would not cause failure of its main landing gear to deploy.. As per international law the South Korean government will lead the investigation, but the United States’ National Transportation Safety Board will participate because the airline manufacturer (Boeing aircraft) was from the USA.
